Information Management to Maximize Your Yields

Rootless Corn

It is an important time to evaluate your fields for root development issues. Rootless corn plants may appear healthy but after recent strong winds, plants with poor or no nodal roots have become lodged or even found lying on the ground.

Rootless corn is caused by sidewall compaction, dry soils, shallow planting and especially dry conditions when the seed furrow opens up after planting.

Nodal roots provide the plants with water and nutrients throughout development. Cultivation can help by placing soil around the base of the plant and followed by rain to help cover the root zone and promote new root growth.
